What this is

Doing your job well stopped being enough a while ago.

Most people are measured on activity — tickets closed, projects delivered, hires made. Almost nobody can draw a clean line from what they did last quarter to what the organization was actually trying to achieve. That gap is why good work goes unnoticed, why budgets get cut from functions that were performing, and why “strategic” stays a word in someone else’s job description.

IVI closes it. Over two days you apply Balanced Scorecard methodology at the level you actually control — your role and your function. You build a strategic intent statement, assess where your function really stands, define themes and balanced objectives, draw a strategy map, and choose metrics that show contribution instead of effort.

Where the VAST five-day builds and executes organizational strategy, IVI is about your personal and functional contribution to it. No prior Balanced Scorecard experience required.

Who it’s for

For anyone who wants their contribution to be visible, and defensible.

This course is for you if…

  • You want to increase your value and impact on the organization
  • You want to differentiate your skillset from everyone else at your level
  • You lead or specialize in a function — Product, Project, HR, IT, Operations, and more
  • Your team’s work is good but leadership doesn’t see how it connects
  • You’re new to a role and want to establish strategic footing early

Look elsewhere if…

  • You need to build an organization-wide strategy — that’s the VAST five-day
  • You’re a product manager and want the role-specific edition — take Strategy for Product Managers
  • You want theory; two-thirds of this workshop is you working on your own function

What you leave with

Seven shifts, and the artifacts that prove them.

Everything here is built on your real function during the two days — not a case study.

The agenda

Eight sessions across two days.

Day 1 goes from your value proposition to a balanced set of functional objectives. Day 2 turns those into a map, metrics, a roadmap and a plan you sign.

DAY 1 You Must Add Value → Defining ImpactSessions 1–4 · value proposition, intent, current state, themes and objectives
Morning — sessions 1 & 2
  • You Must Add Value — opening self-assessment: how much of your week is strategic impact versus operational focus?
  • The value hierarchy: Execution → Expertise → Enablement → Strategic Partnership
  • Personal value proposition exercise: value contribution mapping, stakeholder impact, strategic influence inventory
  • Setting Goals & Intent — the four perspectives applied to you; strategy as a hypothesis, not a fixed plan
  • Strategic context analysis and the strategic intent workshop — intent versus mission statement
Afternoon — sessions 3 & 4
  • You Are Here — functional maturity assessment across key capability areas
  • Stakeholder value assessment: how is your value actually perceived, and where’s the expectation gap?
  • SWOT with a strategic lens, and a current-state synthesis in a few clear sentences
  • Themes & Objectives — theme generation, evaluation and prioritization
  • Objective development across Financial, Customer, Process, and Capability & Capacity; alignment verification
You leave the day with: an articulated value proposition, a drafted strategic intent statement, a current-state assessment with prioritized gaps, and 3–5 themes carrying 10–14 balanced objectives.
DAY 2 Telling the Value Story → Make It HappenSessions 5–8 · strategy map, metrics, prioritized roadmap, 90-day plan
Morning — sessions 5 & 6
  • Telling the Value Story — strategy map construction and cause-and-effect linkage
  • Strategic narrative development, and stakeholder-specific messaging that keeps the core story
  • Value dialogue simulation: executive-level role-play and objection handling
  • Measure What Matters — output versus outcome, leading versus lagging, strategic versus operational
  • KPI development by objective; OKR integration and cascading; measurement system design
Afternoon — sessions 7 & 8
  • Prioritize & Deliver — initiative identification and initiative-to-objective mapping
  • Prioritization: impact versus effort, strategic alignment scoring, portfolio balance
  • Roadmap development, sequencing, dependencies, and incremental value planning
  • Make It Happen — implementation impediment assessment and root cause analysis
  • 30/60/90-day action planning, accountability framework, and public commitment
You leave the day with: a visual functional strategy map, a balanced metric set with defined methodologies, a prioritized initiative portfolio and roadmap, and a signed 90-day action plan.

How it runs

Delivered in the room, or live online.

In person

A facilitated working session — breakout space, wall work, and cross-functional groups. This is the format the material was designed for.

Live online

Same facilitator, same exercises, run in a virtual workspace. Fully live — not a recorded course you watch alone.

Private cohort

Run for your organization, on your strategy, with your own examples. Run it for a whole department and everyone’s maps connect to each other.

Upcoming dates

Scheduled cohorts

Public cohorts run in person and live online. Private cohorts are scheduled to suit your organization — talk to us.
